Tree Styles: Chop Order Matters

Every Galatea tree species has a designated Style—the precise anatomical order its parts must be cut. Ignoring tree styles is the most common reason new foragers experience reduced log output.

Fig Style: Trunk → Branches

Start with the center column, then clear the crown.

1. TrunkToughness 10
2. BranchesToughness 5

Mangrove Style: Branches → Trunk → Roots

Canopy first, center trunk, then roots.

1. BranchesToughness 25
2. TrunkToughness 50
3. RootsToughness 50

Helix Style: Beige Logs → Red Logs

Chop the outer Beige logs first, then the inner Red logs.

Mechanics & Penalties

[!CAUTION] Felling tree parts out of order inflicts an immediate 50% Sweep reduction on your hit.

  • Thrown Axes Penalty: Throwing your axe imposes a base 50% Sweep penalty.
  • Missile Enchant Mitigation: Applying the Missile (I–V) enchant reduces this thrown axe penalty by 10% per level (down to 0% penalty at Missile V).
  • Multiplicative Penalty Stacking: Out-of-order chops combined with a non-enchanted thrown axe hit reduce your effective Sweep down to ~25% effectiveness!
  • Galatea Log Yield Cap: All Galatea trees cap log yields at 20 extra logs per chop (21 total per chop). Sweep past this breakpoint does not yield additional logs on Galatea. Test your effective log yields using the Sweep Calculator.

Practical Felling Routine

  1. Fig Trees: Stand near the center of the trunk. Clear the main trunk column first (Toughness 10), then sweep the outer branch crown (Toughness 5).
  2. Mangrove Trees: Ascend to the branch canopy first (Toughness 25). Clear the canopy, drop down to chop the middle trunk (Toughness 50), and complete felling by clearing the roots (Toughness 50).
  3. Helix Trees (Torrhus Canyon): Chop all outer Beige logs first before advancing to the inner Red logs (Toughness 150).
  4. Felling Bonus: Always fell the tree completely. Tree Gifts are awarded upon tree death to all participating players who deal $\ge 33%$ total tree damage.
