Heart of the Forest: What to Buy First

Level 1 of every unlocked perk is completely FREE, and cost growth scales polynomially after level 1—so a wide-and-shallow investment beats deep-and-narrow early on. HOTF contains 8 Tiers and uses two distinct currencies: Forest Whispers (Tiers 1–3) and Desert Whispers (Tiers 4–8).

[!NOTE] Tokens of the Forest Mechanics:

  • You can earn up to 15 Tokens of the Forest (13 unlocked via tree progression + 2 from Center of the Forest).
  • The 10 ability perks (Damage Boost, Axe Toss, Lottery, Foraging Madness, Early Bird, Precision Cutting, Monster Hunter, Tree Whisperer, Homing Axe, Maniac Slicer) cost 1 Token each and 0 Whispers!

Recommended Priority Order

Priority 1

Level 1 of Everything Unlocked

Since level 1 is completely FREE for all perks, unlock level 1 of every node as soon as it becomes reachable for instant, costless stat gains.

Priority 2

Daily Wishes (Tier 3)

Maxing all 100 levels costs ~110,682 Forest Whispers. At max level, your first daily chop of each log type awards up to +40,000 Whispers, paying for itself in days.

Priority 3

Sweep (Tier 1)

Grants +1 Sweep per level. All 50 levels cost ~1.76M Forest Whispers. Upgrade this to reach key tree Toughness breakpoints.

Priority 4

Foraging Fortune (Tier 2)

Grants +3 Foraging Fortune per level (~2.11M Forest Whispers for all 50 levels). Directly multiplies log drop yield.

Priority 5

Timber & Two-for-One (Tiers 5 & 6)

  • Timber: Grants +0.1 Timber per level (+1% chance to fell whole tree on first cut at max).
  • Two-for-One: Rescaled to 0.25–25% chance to duplicate log drops (2.5x buff in 0.27 patch).

Priority 6

Upper Desert Perks (Tiers 4–8)

Spend Desert Whispers into Efficient Forager (Foraging Wisdom for XP leveling), Iron Lungs, and Starlyn Supreme to help push your Foraging Level cap to 57.

Low Priority Until Endgame

  • Forest Strength & Forest Speed: (~7.73M Whispers each) Convert active Strength and Speed stats into Fortune and Sweep.
  • Ricochet & Co-op Perks: Ricochet (random thrown axe bounce) and Half Empty / Half Full (as of 0.27 they operate island-wide).
