Foraging in 2026: Where to Start

The June 2025 Foraging Update turned foraging from "hold left click on oak" into a full progression skill. Three things define it now:

  • Sweep — how many logs you cut per chop. On old-world trees it's simply +1 log per point (capped at 36 logs per chop). Check your breakpoints with the Sweep calculator.
  • Toughness — each Galatea tree part resists Sweep. Fig trunks sit at 7, Mangrove trunks and roots at 50 — the game recommends at least 50 Sweep before Mangroves.
  • Foraging Fortune — chance for extra log drops, exactly like Farming Fortune (100 fortune = double drops). Your skill level alone gives +4 per level, up to +216 at the new cap of Foraging 54.

Your first hour

  1. Level Foraging to 5 in The Park (any trees — no Toughness there).
  2. Head to Galatea (requires Minecraft 1.21.5+ client) and start on Fig Trees in Moonglade Marsh — their trunk Toughness of 7 is beatable with starter gear.
  3. Cut your first trees and unlock the Heart of the Forest — its first Sweep perk levels are nearly free and each gives +1 Sweep. See your Heart of the Forest profile tab.
  4. Save every Tree Gift — they carry the valuable drops and +100 Forest Whispers each.

What to aim for

Milestone 1

50 Sweep

Reaches key Mangrove trunk and root breakpoint territory, letting you harvest wood much faster.

Milestone 2

Fig Armor (4pc)

Grants a huge boost of +120 Foraging Fortune and +24 Sweep.

Milestone 3

Foraging 20+

Unlocks +80 Foraging Fortune from skill levels alone, greatly boosting your drops.

Milestone 4

Daily Wishes (HOTF 3)

Unlocks Tier 3 Daily Wishes for up to +40,000 free Whispers daily.
